On Monday, October 21, the Young Dems of Ward 6 and the DC Young Dems hosted an educational forum on DC Home Rule featuring a fantastic guest speaker, UMBC Professor George Derek Musgrove, co-author (with Chris Myers Asch) of Chocolate City: A History of Race and Democracy in the Nation's Capital and creator of the Black Power in Washington, DC website.
Dr. Musgrove addressed the history of the Home Rule Act, how it came to be, how the landscape has changed in the past 50 years since it was first passed, threats to Home Rule, why it's so important for DC and our fight for statehood and equal citizenship, and what we can do to protect Home Rule.
