The Ward 6 Dems have chosen DC's Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid network as our winter #DemsCare community service project.
Founded when the first bus arrived from Texas in April of 2002, the Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network (MSMA) is made up of community organizations and hundreds of individual volunteers who are committed to supporting migrants arriving in DC.
Why mutual aid?
In mutual aid, people work together to provide for one another's immediate survival because they know that the systems they currently live under will not. Mutual aid operates on the principle solidarity not charity and involves people at all levels of a community respecting one another’s autonomy as they support each other.
How can you help?
You can donate money.
You can give in-kind donations of general supplies or baby and maternity-specific items.
You can support their work by buying merch.
You can take action by advocating for migrants with the Bowser administration and the DC Council.
If you have even more capacity, and particularly if you're fluent in Spanish, you can volunteer.
