In the spring of 2024, Councilmember Brooke Pinto, chair of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, proposed the Secure DC Act, an omnibus bill, which contains over 100 interventions intended to improve public safety. It was signed into law about a year ago.
On Monday, April 7, 2025, CM Pinto joined the Ward 6 Dems to discuss what's in the bill and the impact it has had on crime, public safety, and the criminal legal system in DC in the past year.
CM Pinto provided an overview of the provisions of the Secure DC Act. She also discussed her recently introduced Peace DC Plan, then she took questions from the audience.
